24-hour Cottage Buffering

Some other cottage resorts, including Firefly, allow guests separation in terms of distance. Firefly is the only mulit-unit vacation property in Cedar Key that also separates guests by time.

When local test positivity (a measure of community spread) exceeds 5%, we begin blocking cottages for the day before and one day after the reservation. This allows the cottage to be unoccupied for a full day–at least 27 hours and usually longer–between guests. We relaxed this in August, but are monitoring the epidemic at the Covid Act Now website.

The CDC recommends that people wait 24 hours before entering a space occupied by a person who may have been exposed to the coronavirus. Many people can have the virus and exhibit no symptoms.

During this extended period, we can thoroughly air out the rooms and return them to a comfortable state and have more time to conduct our most comprehensive housekeeping effort offers optimum effectiveness.
